Although the passenger services had ceased over a year earlier the Woodhead line still saw frequent passenger trains with diversions and football specials. On a lovely late spring day a diverted 1M42 the 1652 Nottingham to Manchester Piccadilly is diverted from the Hope Valley route (leading vehicle is M52064) at Dunford East on 26 May 1971. DB975018 & DB975019 passing Dunford East with "Plazma Torch Train" 5G43 0543 Tinsley to Dunford West 29th June 1971. Under the rear bogie of the leading coach a flame can be seen burning onto the railhead to clean it and improve traction. Keith Long.
